“WILL TO POWER”
[Anything which] is a living and not a dying body... will have to be an incarnate will to power, it will strive to grow, spread, seize, become predominant - not from any morality or immorality but because it is living and because life simplyis will to power... 'Exploitation'... belongs to theessence of what lives, as a basic organic function; it is a consequence of the will to power, which is after all the will to life.
The reading from this quote as explained by Nietzsche shows that human will always "strive to grow", always strive for power so they would be able to control everything around them and this is just a phenomenon of human nature. On the whole this explains his opinion in the article of how wicked the ancient Greeks were and how they could strive to selfishly get what they wanted because of the power they had. This gives a better explanation of Nietzsche article “that humanity is fundamentally driven by a need for power, and the most powerful are those who are able to achieve their values.”
From the above, we have a clear understanding that humans as we are will always do the things that will help us to survive and put us in a position ahead of others where we can always have the will and power to control so as to achieve our selfish desires. The root of all evil today is powera and the strongest desire to be ahead and in control of everything around us. Due to this, people are pushed with the desire to gain power so they can have everything under their beckon call. Human beings never get satisfied with what they have this explains why we move from a position to the unfairly and even if it has be achieved by killing someone we are always ready and willing to do so.
This however can clearly be seen in African societies today how people strive for power like life itself. For instance, the president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe who rose from prime minister and then to the first executive head of state of and then the secretary General of the Zimbabwe African national union, shows greed for the need to be powerful. He assumed office as the president of Zimbabwe from December 31 1987. Because of his greed for power he never wanted to step down for another person to rule as the president of Zimbabwe. Sometimes is very difficult to understand why people do the things they do but I guess that is what makes us human. He was reelected as president in 1990, 1996 and in 2000, his term of office expired at the end of March 2008, but he was re-elected later in 2008 in another election which gave rise to a lot of allegations of election fraud and intimidation. All of this was due to the need to gain power.
The Egyptian former president Hosni Mubarak served for thirty years (1981 to 2011) this clearly shows the desire to survive and the will to power. Mubarak never wanted anybody to become the president of Egypt hence he never gave the chance step down till he was forced to resign by his people. All of these attitudes show how humans desire for the will to power.

ReplyDeleteThats true every human has some desire to dominate when he has a chance, this can be seen through out history.
Moreover, looking at the ancient kingdoms like the British, Mughals, Mongols etc all these kingdoms have mission and vision to spread as far as they can reach in order to increase their control. This is clear depiction of will to power.
